“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” 2 Timothy 3:16.
These are Paul’s words to Timothy, a younger man starting out in Christian service during the early days of Christianity. Paul was like a father to him, and wrote to Timothy to encourage him to be convinced of what he had been previously taught, to guard the ‘good deposit’ entrusted to him, to be strong in the face of wrong teaching, to exercise his gift, fulfil his calling and to do everything for the glory of God. The foundation of a life like that had to be the living Word of God.
The Word of God stands as the only truth in a world of relativism. Our Creator has revealed himself to us through his Word, declaring his purposes from eternity past to eternity future. We have our brief place in time, a short moment in which to appreciate all that God has done to rescue us from the consequences of our sin. Our response to his Word will revolutionise our lives: by God’s grace we can come to know his great salvation that comes to us through faith in the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, his Son. We can rejoice in the new life that is ours as a consequence of God’s mercy & love and seek to honour God in our surrendered lives. The Bible tells us this. We have to read, listen, understand and obey.
